In my role as a photo editor with The Columbia Missourian, I generated visually engaging day-turn and long-term story ideas, served as a communication bridge between reporters and photographers, and collaborated with designers to produce the highest quality visually-driven narratives possible both in print and online. I also guided staff photographers as they learned to successfully pitch and execute their own projects, supporting their endeavors through long conversations about visual composition as well as during image selection, toning and print and online layout. I served as the visuals liaison for four newsroom beats: Health & Higher Education, State Government, Investigative and Social Justice. Ultimately, my behind-the-scenes presence, in collaboration with my fellow photo editors, provided a consistent support system so all Missourian staff photographers could reach reach their highest potentials.
