Faith, Family and the Future:

Starlyn Terrero builds a better life

Starlyn Terrero is a Fulbright scholar from the Dominican Republic pursuing his Master's of Public Affairs at the University of Missouri. He left his family and his country behind to study abroad in the hope that when he returns to the Dominican Republic he can break his family's cycle of generational trauma and provide a stable life for his partner and child. Terrero describes the challenges of fatherhood and discusses balancing his Christianity with his sexuality. Because of the Dominican Republic's lack of protection or recognition for same-sex marriage and adoption, he and his partner are unable to wed and cannot share custody of their infant daughter.
