At 22 years of age, Columbia resident Billie Huang says she’s “withering away.” A fifth-year general studies major in the MU College of Arts & Sciences, Huang is still searching for her passion. As a multimedia artist with interests in DJing and screen printing, Huang navigates the ubiquitous stress of early adulthood, balancing her desire to not be a “normie” with her dreams of having a financially stable future. For the past four years, her parents have covered her educational expenses. After failing too many classes last semester, however, they told her she needs to pay her own way moving forward.
“If you think I’m being laid back about [the future], it’s more because I haven’t even processed how scary that is to just go into the world without any footing or an internship or anything that I can go off of,” Huang said. “I just haven’t processed it yet. But for now I’m just going with the flow, seeing what happens.”
